Hi! I have actually many things that I would like to write about on my blog but my time is very limited at the moment. In this entry I will show the look that I wore at our academy's 90th birthday party. The dress code was "the decades of the academy" and I was inspired by the 20's. I tried to stay as committed to the makeup style of the decade as possible.
Tältä naamavärkkini sitten illalla näytti. / And this is how my face looked.
In the 20's pale face and round red cheeks were valued. Women didn't contour their cheekbones vertically as we, in order to make our faces appear slimmer, nowadays do . Eyebrows were kept thin and were drawn lower than today. Those kind of eyebrows may actually look quite funny if you look photos from that decade today. It wasn't common to use makeup before the 20's because it was consired to be meant for prostitutes and actresses only, not for fine women. During the 20's that opinion, however, changed and women started to seriously beat their faces. Maybe the most common look for eyes was the one that is very similar to smokey eyes-look of today. Women weren't afraid to use bright colors. They also used bold lip colors, and especially in the early 20's bright red was very popular. Lips were lined to appear slightly smaller as they really were.
Totta kai piti myös kokeilla miltä lookki näyttää mustavalkoisena. / I had to see how I looked in black and white.
I was quite proud of how I looked that night. I think that the makeup suited my face. The only problem was that I could't line my eyes with liquid liner as I usually do. I was in a hurry so I didn't really have time to style my hair properly. I just curled it a little bit. Unfortunately the curls fell flat at some point during the evening. I don't own any 20's inspired clothes, therefore I decided to wear my green maxidress that gave also a tiny touch of 30's and 40's for my look. You can see the dress properly here. I didn't try to be perfectly historically correct, I just had fun with clothes and makeup. I didn't take my noce piercing (or smiley) off or didn't even try to hide my sidecut either.
Hanna akatemialta otti minusta juhlissa myös tämän todella onnistuneen kuvan. / Hanna took a great photo of me during the evening!
